Sarah Cameron
Sarah Cameron was born in Edinburgh in 1980 to a family of established artists. Following in the footsteps of her father and uncle, she attended Edinburgh College of Art, graduating in 2003. She is represented in their notable collection.
In 2003 she won a Cross Trust travel award encouraging her to develop work inspired both by Scotland and travel abroad. Since then she has traveled widely and also renovated a ruin on a remote Greek island.
Her current body of paintings feature land and seascapes inspired by the Greek and Scottish Islands and are imbued with intense light, characteristic of both places. While her paintings of the wilds of Scotland evoke a deep sense of knowledge and understanding of the land, the Greek paintings suggest a new and vibrant passion for colour.
Her work is distinguished by her unique visual personality, balancing a sensitivity towards texture, brushstrokes and mark-making with striking and imposing compositions. By using an intensive process of drawing and painting from life, she eliminates unnecessary clutter from the scene, leaving only the parts essential to the evocation of a certain place and time.
She has exhibited widely in solo and group exhibitions throughout Scotland, as well as in London and Greece. Her work is part of many private collections worldwide.
She works on location and from her studio in Edinburgh.
